Join me on my morning commute as we look at the major construction works taking place at Junction 18 of the M60, also known as Simister Island Interchange, where the M60, M62 and M66 meet. This busy motorway interchange is a familiar source of rush-hour congestion for commuters travelling around Greater Manchester. I regularly experience delays of around 38–45 minutes on my morning commute, so what exactly is being built to improve the situation? In this driving POV video, we explore the construction site, the huge earthworks and piles of material, and the plans for the new Northern Loop free-flow link road and elevated viaduct. The wider project also includes motorway widening and improvements to connections between the M60, M62 and M66. National Highways aims to reduce peak-time congestion and improve journey-time reliability, with completion scheduled for 2029/30. Will these improvements make the daily commute easier, or will congestion remain a problem? Watch the journey and share your experiences in the comments.
