🔥 Darklight Phoenix Is Bringing the Phoenix Strategy Back to Standard! Today we're playing a new Rakdos Darklight Phoenix deck in MTG Arena, using graveyard synergies, creature sacrifices, and self-mill effects to bring our Phoenixes back from the dead and keep the pressure on our opponents!
🔥 Darklight Phoenix — The Star of the Deck
Darklight Phoenix is our main win condition and a black take on the classic Arclight Phoenix strategy. Its ability lets us return it from the graveyard to the battlefield when two creatures die, allowing us to bring it back and attack again without having to cast it from our hand.
To make this strategy work, we're using several cards to fill our graveyard and set up our Phoenix recursion. Overlord of the Balemurk and Dark Matter Manipulator help us mill cards, while Twilight Diviner lets us surveil cards into the graveyard and copy creatures returning from our graveyard once per turn.
🪦 Discard, Sacrifice, and Graveyard Synergies
We also need reliable ways to get Darklight Phoenix into the graveyard and trigger its ability.
• Masked Meower helps discard Phoenix from our hand, while its sacrifice interaction can help trigger Phoenix's return.
• Cool but Rude gives us another way to discard cards and set up our graveyard strategy.
• Umbral Collar Zealot provides a sacrifice outlet to help trigger our Phoenixes.
• Deadly Precision removes an opposing creature while letting us sacrifice one of our own, potentially triggering Phoenix's ability.
With the right setup, these cards help turn creature deaths into recurring threats and give our opponents another problem to deal with every turn.
⚔️ Backup Win Conditions
If our Phoenix plan isn't enough, we have other ways to close out the game. Avenger of the Fallen creates creature tokens when it attacks based on the number of creatures in our graveyard, rewarding us for filling it throughout the game.
We also have Timeline Culler, which can be cast from the graveyard using its warp cost, giving us another flexible threat to work with.
🔥 Can Rakdos Darklight Phoenix become a competitive Standard deck in MTG Arena? Can we consistently fill our graveyard, sacrifice creatures, and bring our Phoenixes back for repeated attacks? Let's find out!
