How to combine a fall hike to Sklabinský Castle, Teplické Serpentíny (Teplické Zigzag Waterway), and Katova Skala Cliff from Sklabinský Podzámok? It is possible to do this using forest trails and rural paths. The route from Sklabinský Castle to Teplické Serpentíny is locally marked with an unofficial hiking sign. A similar marking continues to Katova Skala, unfortunately we were unable to find it amid the dense vegetation and the carpet of autumn leaves. Therefore, we returned to the field path and further followed the red hiking trail back in Sklabinský Podzámok. You can find our exact route at the link below. POINTS OF INTEREST ON THE ROUTE: 🏰 Sklabiňa Castle (620 m) - built at the beginning of the 13th century as a royal castle, it later became the residence of prominent noble families, such as the Révay family. Its strategic location above the Turiec Basin allowed for control of trade routes and protection of the estate. Today, the remains of the walls, towers, and courtyard are still visible. The castle was, except for the above mentioned relations to nobility, also an important center of the Slovak National Uprising 🏞️ Teplické Serpentíny - Teplické Zigzag Waterway (500 m) - a sophisticated system of small ponds and interconnected channels, built between 1870 and 1875 by the noble Révay family, was designed to supply water to the manor and park in Turčianska Štiavnička. The water flows down the forested slope through several sharp bends, forming small cascades, travertine terraces, and ponds lined with a footpath. Visitors can also observe aquatic creatures here, such as crayfish and salamanders ⚖️ Katova Skala Cliff (901 m) - a rocky outcrop that served as a natural lookout and, according to local legends, as a site for trials and punishments carried out by the executioner from the nearby Sklabinský Castle. From the top of the rock, visitors can enjoy stunning views of the surrounding hills, valleys, and forests THE ROUTE IN A NUTSHELL: Location: Veľká Fatra Mountains (SK), vicinity of Sklabinský Podzámok - unfortunately the video title contains a mistake Route link: https://mapy.com/s/lerobumeje Length: ~13 km Elevation gain: 600 m Terrain: mostly forest paths and trails, due to steep and difficult sections, we recommend wearing sturdy footwear Difficulty: moderate Date: October 22, 2025
