From the Floor to the Sideline: Coach Ivey on Her Irish Career

Coach Niele Ivey leads with her heart, and her players know it. As Notre Dame’s head women’s basketball coach, she’s built a culture based on trust, accountability, and relationships, and she does it with the same mindset that made her an All-American point guard and a national champion in 2001. In this episode, Ian Book talks with Coach Ivey about what that culture looks like day to day and how she builds chemistry with a roster that’s always evolving. They also talk about coaching the point guard position, what great leadership looks like to her, and how she helps her players grow into leaders and people, not just athletes. She also shares lessons from her time in the WNBA and on the Memphis Grizzlies staff, and what she took from working under Coach McGraw. They also get into NIL, how she talks with her players about it, and how she helps them balance basketball, school, and building a personal brand. Coach Ivey closes with what she hopes her players say about their Notre Dame experience years from now. The Playbook is a Rally podcast presented by Priority Commerce.
