How did ancient Egyptians spend their free time—and how can archaeologists know when boredom itself leaves no trace?
In this video, we examine Senet boards, Deir el-Medina work records, Theban banquet scenes, Amarna wax head cones, ritual drinking, ancient stories, and funerary evidence to reconstruct what Egyptians actually did for games, music, gatherings, and entertainment.
The evidence shows something more interesting than a simple list of hobbies: in ancient Egypt, play, social life, religion, and the afterlife could sometimes overlap in ways that do not fit neatly into our modern categories.
