Yesterday, someone named your price. Nobody asked what you wanted. How did a human being become someone else’s property? Begin with an imagined day in ancient Rome, then explore selected histories of slavery: warfare and captivity, Babylonian laws, skilled workers and freed people, the Atlantic slave trade, resistance, and the long struggle for abolition. This illustrated documentary asks who benefited, how institutions enforced control, and why ending slavery in law did not automatically give everyone the means to live freely. The opening Roman character is fictional. His day is a historically informed reconstruction, not a surviving personal account. Illustrations are interpretive rather than exact archaeological reconstructions.
