With a population of around 100 people, Placerville is one of Idaho’s most preserved mining towns — complete with a spotless volunteer fire department, quiet streets, and a small general store that’s been serving locals and travelers for generations. After exploring the town, we continue south toward Boise, following the same corridors that once connected mining communities across the Boise Basin. This stretch of the drive is all about the landscape — forest roads, rolling hills, and the transition from backcountry to civilization.
