Bibbulmun Track - day 51

Day 51 - Walpole to Mt Clare September 23, 2025 Gentle start because short miles. Breakfast at the BP, vego big breakfast swapping hashbrowns for the eggs, and coffee. Had a look at the op shop, Rhea picked up a couple things. Got a couple pieces fruit at the IGA and checked in at the visitors center. Hiked out around 10:30 through mostly coastal scrub and then exclusively salt water paperbarks as we walked through swampy land and then crossed the Walpole. More coastal scrub with some small gums as we passed the outskirts of Walpole, quite warm under a sunny blue sky day. Eventually back into forest and shade after the golf course, soon becoming denser with some red and white Tingles on either side of the trail along with Karri Sheoaks. Stopped at John Rate lookout with a far off view of the ocean through the trees. More beautiful forest as we gently ascended towards Mount Clair. The trail markers actually bypassed the summit on a shortcut to the hut. Set up camp and then met Rosie and Mary who hiked in as part of a section hike. Had some lunch and climbed to the summit of Mt. Clare. Granite outcrops on the top, and some decent views. Met a group of day hikers who interestingly asked if it was our first time climbing the mountain, which we affirmed. Friendly conversation resulted in nice trail magic - a gift of two apples, which were very sweet. Rhea yet to arrive at time of writing. We should see her later on.
