Radetzky March for Concert Band (arranged by Adrian Erik Horvath)

Composer: Johann Strauss Sr. Original title: Radetzky-Marsch English title: Radetzky March Opus: Op. 228 Composed: 1848 First performance: 31 August 1848, Vienna Dedication: Field Marshal Joseph Radetzky von Radetz and the Imperial-Royal Army Radetzky March, Op. 228 was composed in 1848 by Johann Strauss Sr. (1804–1849) and dedicated to Field Marshal Joseph Radetzky von Radetz and the Imperial-Royal Army. The work was first performed on 31 August 1848 at the Wasserglacis in Vienna, during a public celebration honouring the army in Italy and supporting wounded soldiers. The march also has strong historical connections with military-band music. Early publication history includes a version intended for military music, making its place in today’s wind-band repertoire particularly appropriate. Adrián Erik Horváth’s concert band arrangement presents this iconic nineteenth-century march in a full and brilliant modern wind-band setting while preserving its distinctive rhythmic energy, ceremonial character and Viennese style.
