The greatest battle in Japanese mythology, told through 2 hours of epic orchestra — from storm to stillness. 🎼 Full Sessions playlist:    • 平安幻夜 - Full Sessions | Heian Gen'ya   🎧 2 Hours Uninterrupted — No Mid-Roll Ads 📖 Story Cast out of heaven, the storm god came down to the river Hi in Izumo. By the water an old couple wept — seven daughters taken, year by year, by a serpent; only the last remained. The god turned the maiden into a comb and set eight vats of sake at eight gates — liquor brewed eight times over, waiting in the storm-lit dark. Then, from the black valley, eight pairs of eyes rose like crimson lanterns. A body spanning eight valleys and eight peaks; eight heads drank deep, and slept. With the thunder, a blade was drawn, and the storm split the night. From the serpent's tail emerged a sacred sword — Kusanagi, treasure of heaven. Then the rain lifted. The river ran clear. Morning came to the land of Suga. "Eight clouds rise..." — the first song of the world, sung to a new dawn. The first half thunders with battle; the second rests in the stillness after the storm. Wordless female vocals flow through it all. 🎵 Music List 0:00 The Gathering Storm 5:03 Tears by the River 10:52 The Last Daughter 14:43 The Vow of the Comb 19:16 The Eight Vats of Sake 25:14 Eight Crimson Eyes 29:59 Descent of the Serpent 35:02 Storm of Blades 40:21 The Sword in the Tail 45:20 After the Rain 52:23 The Quieting Valley 58:26 The River Running Clear 1:04:59 Distant Thunder of Victory 1:12:28 The Rain-Washed Fields 1:18:24 Returned from the Comb 1:22:48 The Quiet Fire 1:27:49 A Shared Silence 1:32:24 Promise on the Night Wind 1:36:20 The Road to Suga 1:43:43 The Eightfold Palace 1:50:02 Eight Clouds Rising 1:56:04 The Wedding Song 2:02:02 The Sword at Rest 2:09:21 The Hi River at Dawn 📜 About this episode Susanoo's slaying of Yamata-no-Orochi — the eight-headed, eight-tailed serpent — is the greatest battle in Japanese mythology, recorded in both the Kojiki and the Nihon Shoki. Banished from the heavenly plain, the storm god Susanoo arrives at the river Hi in Izumo, where a grieving couple have lost seven daughters to the serpent. He hides the last daughter, Kushinada-hime, by turning her into a comb, lulls the beast to sleep with eightfold-brewed sake, and cuts it down — finding within its tail the sacred sword Kusanagi, one of the three Imperial Regalia of Japan. After the battle, Susanoo marries Kushinada at Suga and composes "Yakumo tatsu," held to be the first waka poem ever sung. This work tells that single night in two movements: the first of storm and battle (taiko and epic choir), the second of the great stillness that follows — our channel's first epic saga. 🔗 Companion piece — the same night through Kushinada-hime's eyes:    • Ethereal Japanese Female Vocals — Kushinad...   🙏 Thank you for listening.
