Today we're checking out a true "what if?" from the Sega Mega Drive scene: Street Fighter II Turbo BETA, an unreleased and unfinished version that gives us a fascinating glimpse into what could have been.
This prototype may carry the legendary Turbo name, but don't expect arcade-perfect speed. In classic PAL fashion, the action moves at a pace that feels more "Street Fighter II Leisurely Afternoon Edition" than Turbo. Add some stiff controls, rough edges, and unfinished mechanics, and you've got a beta that's equal parts curiosity and challenge.
Despite its flaws, this build is an incredible piece of retro gaming history. It's always fascinating to see what developers were experimenting with before a project was altered, delayed, or never released at all.
🎮 In this video:
✔️ Gameplay from the unreleased beta version
✔️ Differences from the final Mega Drive release
✔️ Early character and gameplay quirks
✔️ Slow PAL-speed action and awkward controls
✔️ A look at one of the most interesting Street Fighter prototypes
Whether you're a Street Fighter fan, a Sega collector, or just love obscure gaming history, this beta version is definitely worth seeing in action.
