South Africa today looks a lot like the USSR right before it collapsed: • A system that punishes the productive to subsidise the unproductive • Sky-high unemployment • Most people cannot survive without state support The productive minority is shrinking so fast it can no longer carry everyone else. After the Soviet collapse, one of the poorest and hardest-hit countries did something remarkable. We should copy it.
