Akshar Sevan is an essential pillar of devotion and practice in Swaminarayan upasana (worship and spiritual realization), especially within the Akshar-Purushottam philosophy.
Core Principles of Akshar Sevan:
The Living Link to God: Followers believe that Bhagwan Swaminarayan remains fully present on Earth through the lineage of the Gunatit Guru (the manifest Aksharbrahman). Serving the guru is equivalent to serving God directly.
Agna and Bhakti: True sevan means obeying the instructions (agna) of the guru with total faith and humility, which acts alongside devotion (upasna) as the dual wings required to attain Akshardham (ultimate liberation).
Attaining Atmaroop: By serving the manifest guru, a devotee learns to transcend bodily identification, understand the self as the soul (atma), and offer pure worship to Purna Purushottam Narayan.
The Path to Moksha: Recognizing and serving the present, human-form guru (pragat) is taught in texts like the Satsang Diksha as an indispensable requirement for experiencing supreme divine bliss and achieving moksha.
