We had more projects than ever. Our team was working harder than ever. People were working from 9 AM to midnight. And yet, we were running out of money. For months, I kept taking loans to manage salaries and business expenses. I was looking at a company full of projects, a busy team, and constant deliveries—but the cash flow and profitability simply weren't working. Then one email from a prospect changed the way I looked at my business. They asked: Why are you quoting $2,000 when your competitors are charging $5,000? That question made me realize something painful: We didn't have a delivery problem. We didn't have a sales problem. We had a BUSINESS MODEL problem. Our software projects were being priced without fully understanding the real cost of development, meetings, revisions, support, project management, delivery, and the actual bandwidth required from our team. We were competing in the low-cost pricing pool without understanding the economics of winning those projects. In this video, I share the business lesson I learned from that experience and why every entrepreneur needs to understand project profitability, pricing strategy, revenue models, cash flow, operating costs, and business viability before taking on more business. You'll learn: • Why more projects don't necessarily mean business growth • How low project pricing can destroy profitability • Why revenue is not the same as profit • How to calculate the real cost of a software project • Why project scope and change requests can destroy margins • How running costs affect your pricing strategy • Why cash flow matters even when you have plenty of projects • How to evaluate whether a project is financially viable • When taking a low-cost project can make sense—and when it doesn't • Why SaaS, services, and product businesses all need viable pricing models • The difference between winning projects and winning profitable business After nearly 30 years in technology and entrepreneurship, this is one of the biggest lessons I've learned: *Don't celebrate winning a project until you understand the economics of winning it.* Because sometimes, more business isn't better business. If you're a founder, entrepreneur, technology business owner, SaaS founder, software development company, consultant, or service business owner, this lesson can help you rethink how you price and evaluate your next project. If you'd like to hear more real-world scenarios about how I came out of this situation, feel free to message me.
