What if rethinking how we share our homes, spaces and resources could help us address housing affordability, social isolation and ecological sustainability at the same time?
In this special Healthy Humane Habitats Month session, hosted by New Economy Network Australia (NENA) in collaboration with Degrowth Network Australia, Anisa Rogers launches the Sharing Where We Live booklet and brings together people experimenting with alternative approaches to housing and community life.
From share houses and cohousing to housing cooperatives, intentional communities, suburban retrofits and intergenerational living, this conversation explores the many creative ways people are reimagining where and how we live.
But sharing our homes isn't always easy. Drawing on real experiences, the panellists discuss both the benefits and challenges of collective living — from stronger relationships, mutual support and reduced resource consumption to navigating conflict, personal boundaries, shared responsibilities and collective decision-making.
Featuring insights from people and projects including:
Anisa Rogers — Degrowth Network Australia and the Sharing Where We Live booklet
Victoria and Yin — Anam Chara, an intentional community exploring kinship and collective living
Emilie and Jon — Living More With Less, exploring one-planet lifestyles and lower-consumption living
Teq — RAD Housing and the Brassica Housing Collective, developing models for collectively stewarded and retrofitted housing
