De Aar Shed August 1988

In August 1988, whilst on holiday in South Africa, I was lucky enough to be able to visit the locomotive shed at De Aar. De Aar exists because of its railway. Located on the Karoo at the southern end of the 'Steel Kyalami', it was home to the fine 4-8-4 class 25 locomotives, some of which were originally built as condensing locomotives. These proved expensive to maintain and the condensing apparatus was removed from the tenders on all but one of the engines - no 3511. This film was taken on an old video camera, hand held, without the use of a tripod and any image stabilising system. I have now re-edited it using modern editing software, but there are still a few glitches on the film. Apologies for the variable quality of the result.
