The first time my husband Stanley and I crossed the country by train, I packed like we were going on a cruise, and he carried that suitcase up a narrow staircase on a moving train. Never again. Here is exactly what I pack now for two nights on the train at 67, and the eight things I leave at home. I'm Maggie Pike from Omaha. Stanley handles the tickets. I handle everything else. In this video: the lift test every bag must pass, my two-bag system, what goes in my "night bag" (medications, glasses, charger, flashlight, papers), clothes in layers, what to sleep in on a train, the only two pairs of shoes I bring, toiletries, snacks and water, what I leave at home, and what changes if you ride in coach.
