The hotel website said "steps from the station." It was three long blocks, a bridge over the river in a cold March wind, and a curb at every corner, with our bags. One of you asked where I stay the night before a train trip and how I choose it. Here's my answer, and the three-word rule I use every time: walk it, ask it, scout it.
I'm Maggie Pike from Omaha. Stanley handles the tickets. I handle everything else, including where we sleep the night before. In this video:
walk it: checking the real route on a map, at the hour you'll travel
ask it: my questions for the front desk (the ride to the station, the floor, the bathroom, breakfast, your bags)
reading reviews for three words: station, noise, night
booking a room you can change
scout it: the evening walk to the station without your bags
my night-before routine
