I'm 49, and I live alone in Tokyo.
A day off at home. The humid season is finally over, so I changed the damp absorbers around the flat and set off a smoke canister in the bathroom, to keep mould away before winter.
Then the shopping. I went for sanma, the fish of autumn, but it had sold out. I bought katsuo instead.
Mushroom rice for dinner. It was my first time making it.
In Japan we give the seasons names for things. Autumn is the season for eating, and it is also the season for reading. So the day ends with a book.
What I did:
Lunch. Frozen rice, natto-koji I made myself, avocado and broccoli sprouts.
A walk in the park.
The fishmonger. No sanma, so katsuo to eat raw.
The supermarket. Shimeji, maitake, eringi.
The drugstore. Damp absorbers.
Changing them. The gap beside the bed, the closet, under the washing machine. All three were full of water.
A smoke canister, to keep mould out of the bathroom.
Takikomi-gohan. Rice cooked together with the mushrooms and dashi.
Persimmon after dinner.
A bath, and a book.
Japan gets very humid. Boxes like these are ordinary here, sitting quietly in cupboards, pulling the water out of the air.
