LONESOME FRIDAYS 2025 #5 - Coming Down From Rising Fawn (Norman Blake)

Here's Coming Down From Rising Fawn, one of the many quirky and compelling compositions of flatpicking hero Norman Blake. I took some liberties, but then again, so does Norman. There are at least three recordings out there and they're all a little different (I love his flexibility -- nothing he plays feels canned!). Rising Fawn is the hamlet in Northwest GA where Norman & Nancy have lived for many years, which is right across the state line from Sulphur Springs, AL where Norman grew up. Many of his original songs and tunes concern that specific area and people he knew. That's folk music in a nutshell -- music that springs from a specific place, reflecting lived experiences. My touring season has come to a close. I'm working to get a new EP full band recording out by the end of this year, and then in February, release my duo record with Jacob Jolliff. We're lining up festivals and touring for next summer and I look forwarding to getting back out on the road to share some music with you.
