"Who is wise and understanding among you?" It's a question you'd expect to answer with a résumé — the degrees, the years, the shelf of books. James won't take any of it. He answers his own question with something you can't put on paper: let him show it.
Behind every mouth there's a wisdom steering it, and there are only two kinds in the world. One James calls earthly, unspiritual, demonic — recognizable by what grows around it: bitter jealousy, selfish ambition, disorder, all of which live comfortably inside religious work. The other comes from above and has eight marks, in an order that matters: pure first, then peace-loving, because a peace that comes before purity isn't peace, it's appeasement. Read the eight together and notice what's missing. Not one of them is about how much you know.
