The coat is a symbol. A symbol for everything we carry with us for a long time. Old beliefs. Fears. Roles. A sense of security. Stories we tell ourselves about who we are — stories that may once have been true, but no longer fit who we are today. Gerhard Vester is 71 years old. Even as a young boy, he dreamed of becoming a musician. Music was his great passion. But back then, he was told: “Learn something sensible.” And so, his life took a different path. Today, many decades later, music has returned to his life. But Gerhard now brings something that the boy he once was could not yet have had: the experience and wisdom of an entire lifetime, along with more than 30 years of working with over 10,000 people. With the help of AI, he now brings together music, images and his own thoughts to create short cinematic stories. For him, artificial intelligence is a tool. The ideas, the messages and the images he wants to bring to life come from him. He develops the scenes according to his own vision, creates and refines them, and then brings everything together in the editing process to create his own music videos. “Take Off Your Coat” is about letting go. Gerhard describes it this way: The paradigm shift challenges us. We have long sensed that something is changing. Sometimes the old has to leave before the new can reveal itself. And it is precisely in that space between the old and the new that fear often arises. The coat represents everything that is now ready to be released — with the realization that perhaps the answer is not waiting for us somewhere out there, but has been underneath the coat all along. Perhaps this song also tells a part of Gerhard’s own story. At 71, he does not have to become someone new. He can return to something that was already alive within him as a little boy — and combine it with everything he has gained and experienced throughout the decades in between.
