AT&SF 2926's Return to the Mainline

On September 27th, 2026 at approximately 1:30 in the morning, an AT&SF steam locomotive traversed rails to Bernalillo on the Glorieta Subdivision for the first time since 1956. This effort came after months of work on steam locomotive 2926 was performed in preparation for her first shakedown run on the mainline. Being a volunteer myself with NMHR, I have my own blood sweat and tears into this locomotive and it was incredibly bone chilling to see it finally come to fruition. On our second run to Los Lunas, I found myself boots on the ground with the mechanical team riding along to service the engine at our halfway point and to fix any issues that arised, which thankfully ended up being none, hence the lack of footage of the Los Lunas run in this video. Seen in this footage are the 26 herself, a support train for braking made up of SBRHS's two dorm cars and two baggage/tool cars, and a leaser diesel from SPTX, former ICG GP-26 rebuild 2602, for protection power. Both runs were incredibly successful, and have gone on to prove what we can do for future mainline excursions. Also included in the video is footage of the 2926 on the sawmill spur attending a fundraiser dinner, as well as the operations crew switching around the train in the railyards before the run.
