I Walked Across a 126ft High Canal in Wales! | Pontcysyllte Aqueduct Vlog The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in Llangollen, Wales is one of the most insane places I’ve ever been 😱 Imagine sailing a narrowboat 126ft in the air... with no railings! In this vlog I explore the history, the views, and what it feels like to cross this UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct was built by the legendary civil engineer Thomas Telford and opened in *1805*. It was designed to carry the Llangollen Canal over the River Dee Valley, connecting the coal mines of Wrexham to the rest of Britain during the Industrial Revolution. It’s 1,007 ft long and 38 meters / 126 ft high - making it the _longest and highest aqueduct in Britain_. They built it with cast iron troughs on stone pillars. And the crazy part? No mortar was used in some parts. It still holds water today after 220 years! In 2009 it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its engineering importance.
