Halloween Autumn Railfanning on Metro North Hudson Line. McBuff Irish servings. 10/31/26

On this gorgeous Halloween day, I couldn’t resist a journey up the scenic Hudson Line to see the Autumn foliage. We stop at Garrison for a few trains and get a bonus of the Amazon train across the river. We then visit the very scenic town of Cold Spring and enjoy many trains passing through. A meal at the trackside Cold Spring Depot Restaurant could not be passed up. Numerous trains interrupted my meal. We finish our visit at Beacon where we catch several Amtrak and Metro North trains. The Hudson Line during peak foliage season is very busy as many extra trains are run to entertain foliage gazers and hikers. We finish our day riding an Autumn extra back to GCT piloted by the McBuff Engineer. We departed Beacon about 5 minutes behind but his smooth handling got us exactly on schedule into GCT. A lot of the P32’s are still running as they are needed for these extra trains. We caught the newest Heritage P32, #218 painted up to salute 9/11 and the first responders of that fateful day.
