The Andhra Pradesh coalition government has initiated a detailed investigation into alleged irregularities in the Jagannanna housing layouts established during the previous YSRCP government. A vigilance inquiry reportedly identified ineligible beneficiaries, unnecessary land acquisition, and unused land, with financial losses estimated at over ₹200 crore. Several housing layouts across the district remain unused because of poor locations, lack of basic infrastructure, and long distances from residential areas. In some places, beneficiaries were allotted house sites far from their hometowns, while other layouts were developed near ponds, dumping yards, and burial grounds. Despite spending money on facilities such as electricity poles and water pipelines, many sites have not seen any house construction. According to the available details, 621 layouts were established across seven constituencies during the previous government, with 47,362 houses sanctioned. The coalition government has reportedly cancelled 51 layouts identified as unsuitable for residential purposes. The government has now formed a committee to examine vacant plots, sites left unused by beneficiaries, eligibility of beneficiaries, house construction status, and possible illegal sale of allotted plots. The investigation aims to identify eligible families who can benefit from the available land and take action against those responsible for alleged irregularities.
