Only 7% of the uranium delivered to America's nuclear power plants in 2025 came from the United States. The biggest single source was Canada, at 32%, according to the US Energy Information Administration. Most of it comes from two mines in northern Saskatchewan, McArthur River and Cigar Lake, where the ore is about 100 times richer than the world average.
We look at Port Hope, Ontario, one of only two plants in North America making uranium hexafluoride, whose licence hearing is in the first week of November 2026, and at how uranium has been taxed lightly or left out of every US tariff on Canada, from the 10% energy tariff in 2025 to the 50% tariffs of August 2026.
