Rory Langdon-Down won the Taylor Wessing Photo Prize with a project about North London United, a football team for people with Down syndrome, and it led straight to work for Great Ormond Street Hospital. We talk about what makes a photograph a story and not just a pretty picture, spending twenty minutes throwing a frisbee before a commercial shoot, documentary work that has to serve more than the photographer, and why he's getting more work, not less, as AI floods everyone's feeds. Also his newsletter, which is one of the best I get, and raising a two year old when nobody knows what this industry looks like in ten years.
Recorded May 2026.
"A photograph is not made in the camera, it's made either side of it."
"Throwing that frisbee around was far more important than anything else I did that day."
"I see through those AI written mailers and newsletters and captions and they just immediately switch me off."
