At the edge of a Bretonnian village stands an old, overgrown Grail shrine.
And every morning, an equally old man tends it.
He trims the ivy. He polishes weathered stone. He tells impossible stories about knights, dragons, battles, and the Lady of the Lake.
The villagers smile.
The children follow him.
And everyone quietly assumes the old man is a harmless fool.
Until the Beastmen come.
“The Fool at the Shrine” is a Warhammer Fantasy fan song about an elderly shrinekeeper who seems strange, outdated, and almost laughable—until his village is threatened and the truth is finally revealed.
The patched cloak hides scars.
The limp hides old battles.
The ridiculous stories were never stories at all.
And beneath years of dust and neglect waits the armor of a Grail Knight.
“WHO LAUGHS AT THE FOOL AT THE SHRINE?
When the old steel starts to shine?”
When the Beastmen descend on the village, the old man does not suddenly become young again.
He does not need to.
He simply becomes what he always was.
A knight who has fought horrors before.
A knight whose vows never expired.
A knight still watched over by the Lady.
And when the battle is finished, he asks for no reward, no celebration, and no recognition.
The next morning he simply picks up his tools and goes back to tending the shrine.
Because the weeds have not gone anywhere.
This is an unofficial Warhammer Fantasy fan work inspired by Bretonnia, Grail Knights, the Lady of the Lake, and the ideals of chivalry in the Old World.
The world may have ended.
The songs haven’t.
