# How Can I Make Jesus Happy Today - Tolu Sarah Johnson

A Song from Tolu to Everyone, on Jesus’ Behalf Verse 1 What if we woke up thinking about Jesus before the day had properly begun? Before we brought Him all our needs and questions, what if we wondered what might bring Him joy? What would put a smile across His face today? What would make Him glad that we came by? Is there something He has wanted us to listen to, or somewhere we could simply spend some time? We spend so much time asking what He'll do for us, maybe we could ask a different way. Before we wonder what Jesus might give us, *how can I make Jesus happy today?* Pre-Chorus Not what can I accomplish, not what does He need me to do. What if loving Him meant caring *about the things that make Him happy too?* Chorus **How can I make Jesus happy today? What could I do just to put that smile on His face? Maybe I could make Him laugh, maybe I could sit and stay, maybe we could put some music on and let it play.** Maybe He wants someone to listen, maybe He just wants some company. Not another grand assignment— *maybe He'd just like someone glad that He is there.* Before we ask Him for another thing, before the hours carry us away, what if each of us woke up asking: *How can I make Jesus happy today?* Verse 2 Maybe we've been thinking so much about His giving that we've rarely wondered what He might enjoy. Maybe we've grown used to always coming for something and forgotten we can bring Him something too. Maybe He has something He would love to tell us, maybe there's a song He wants to share. Maybe He would love somebody asking how He's doing *and caring enough to hear what's really there.* What if we knew Him beyond the times we need Him? What if we learnt the little things He enjoys? What if loving Jesus also meant discovering *the ordinary things that bring Him joy?* Pre-Chorus Because He is more than everything He gives us, and love was never meant to work one way. If something matters simply because it matters to Him, *maybe it should matter to us today.* Chorus **How can I make Jesus happy today? What could I do just to put that smile on His face? What if sometimes what makes Jesus happy *is simply knowing we enjoy being with Him?* What if He could talk and we would listen? What if He could laugh and we would stay? What if we became the kind of people *who cared whether Jesus had a lovely day?* Because love becomes curious about another, love pays attention to another's joy. It doesn't always ask, What can You give me? *Sometimes love asks, What would You enjoy?* Final Chorus **How can I make Jesus happy today? What would make His ordinary Tuesday great? Would He like our questions, would He like some music, would He like somebody simply sharing His day?** What is Jesus looking forward to? What are the little things that bring Him joy? What if knowing Him became much more than needing Him, *and His happiness became important to us too?* Tomorrow morning when our eyes are opening, before we bring Him everything we need, what if every one of us remembered: *How can I make Jesus happy today?* Outro Maybe it isn't another duty, another thing we're meant to get just right. Maybe love is simply learning *what makes somebody else's heart feel light.* So tomorrow when the morning finds you, before you ask what Jesus has for you, take a moment just to think about Him— *then ask what He would love to do.* What would make Him laugh?
