Today we will railfan the orange line at, Assembly, Community College, and North Station. These videos were taken on October 14, 2026, I just didn’t get around to uploading them. Station History: Assembly: MBTA Orange Line’s Newest Station! Opened on September 2, 2014, Assembly was the MBTA’s newest station 27 years. Assembly was built to serve Assembly Row in Somerville MA, a popular residential and shopping area filled with restaurants, stores, and entertainment! The station is very accessible featuring 4 elevators connecting the center platform to the streets. Community College: Community College opened on April 7, 1975, as part of the MBTA's Haymarket North Extension project, which replaced the old Charlestown Elevated line. The station was built to serve as direct access to Bunker Hill Community College . This station is interesting because it has an abandoned platform! The center track was originally intended to be an express track for riders heading inbound from the suburbs when the MBTA were planning the OL extension to Reading. Due to pushback from local communities and budget constraints, the extension was never put into fruition and today the platform stands abandoned. The platform still features vintage MBTA maps from the 70’s! North Station: North Station is one of Boston’s biggest Transit Hubs, along with South Station. North Station serves multiple commuter rail lines going north and west of the city, and the green and orange subway lines are connected at the station. North Station also serves as direct access to TD Garden. North Station first opened as North Union Station in stages between between 1893 and 1894. The Boston Garden & Second Station: Opened on November 14, 1928, and the now the TD Garden opened on, September 30, 1995. With the final “Hub on Causeway” expansion finished completion in 2019.
