On Christmas Eve 1950, in an unheated Chungdong Church in Seoul, an ordinary church member read Matthew 10 (verse 29) aloud and everyone in the room wept. Following Francesca's War Diary, the book made from the diary of Francesca Donner Rhee, wife of President Syngman Rhee, we ask four questions: how the diary reached us, what she saw in the summer of the wartime capital, what promise the verse read on Christmas Eve carried, and how to read this record honestly.
