A first look at the new My First Bitcoin education app: one place to find a Bitcoin class, teach one, and connect with communities around the world.
Patrick talks with Benoit, director of technology at My First Bitcoin, as part of the October release.
Until now, educators and students moved between separate tools: a learning management system, a community hub with forums and wikis, the website and the publication platform, each with its own account. The new app brings these together, so independent educators can prepare, schedule and teach their classes from their pocket, and people who want to learn can see what classes are starting near them or online.
Benoit shares his screen to walk through the closed beta version: browsing and creating cohorts, the activity library, guides and the lexicon, the community map and leaderboard, Lightning donations and the contribute page. The app is being built in public with communities in the education network, so it will keep changing with their feedback. Want to join the next beta phase or ask a question? In this video:
Why My First Bitcoin is replacing many scattered tools with one app for Bitcoin educators and students
How educators can publish a cohort in minutes with presets for each Bitcoin Diploma module, their own video link or a generated Google Meet link, and co-educators from other communities
How the activity library helps educators filter hands-on activities by program, duration and group format, like the barter game
How the community map, leaderboard and activity feed make independent Bitcoin education visible as proof of work
How students can support the community that teaches them with a few sats over Lightning, and how educators can send sats to students
The rollout plan: a closed beta with a few communities, then the wider education network, then everyone, with app store release roughly targeted for April next year
