A disciple of Uppoor Narayanappa, he began his professional career with Amrutheshwari Mela and went on to serve with several prominent Yakshagana Melas. He served as the principal Bhagavatha of Perdoor Mela for nearly 28 years and shared the stage with many legendary artists, including Chittani Ramachandra Hegde. Through his singing and musical compositions, he brought a special charm to Pauranika, historical and social Yakshagana prasangas. More than 400 Yakshagana audio cassettes featuring his voice were recorded, making his contribution an invaluable part of Yakshagana’s audio heritage. He was honoured with several awards, including the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award 2022, Udupi District Rajyotsava Award, Sri Rama Vittala Award, Kannada Kalabhushana Award and Kalinga Navada Award, among many other recognitions. After serving Yakshagana for more than four decades, he passed away on April 25, 2024. His melodious voice, exceptional Bhagavathike and immense contribution to Yakshagana will always remain memorable in the history of Badagutittu Yakshagana.
