What happens when high performance becomes unsustainable?
For executives and HR leaders, burnout is not simply an individual wellness issue. It can influence how leaders make decisions, communicate, support their teams, establish boundaries, and ultimately shape the employee experience.
In this HR executive conversation, Elisa Calosso explores the relationship between prolonged stress, burnout, leadership, and personal energy management. Drawing from her own transition from an HR leadership career into wellness, Elisa examines how burnout develops, how to recognize its warning signs, and what leaders can do to create healthier and more sustainable ways of working.
The conversation explores the difference between stress, burnout, and anxiety; the physical, emotional, mental, and behavioral signs of burnout; and the five stages that can take someone from early enthusiasm to chronic exhaustion.
Importantly for HR and executive leaders, the discussion moves beyond individual self-care to examine the workplace conditions that can contribute to burnout, including excessive workloads, unrealistic expectations, insufficient recognition and support, poor boundaries, and organizational systems that create unnecessary stress.
Elisa also discusses practical approaches to stress regulation and introduces Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) as one method she uses in her wellness practice.
