Let's Discuss Book Stuff This episode stemmed from the discussion of many readers asking authors such as Ryan La Sala for more spice in their Young Adult Novels. Many authors in this YA space have heard the same request, but why are adult readers asking for spice in YA spaces? Especially when there are so many adult novels with and without spice to fulfill that need. Is this because the love the writing style, the plot, the emotion provoking many YA novels provide but still want more adult themes? Where is the disconnect from the current adult novels that makes these requests in YA spaces okay? Many of my favorite authors are indeed YA authors. I understand wanting these same authors to dip their toes in the adult spaces or write adult novels, but adding spice to YA is not the way to go about it. I could be biased because I don't really care about or need spicy scenes in my books to enjoy them. Also, many books deemed YA seem to be pushing the envelope of what is acceptable in the YA category. Do you think this is to fulfill the needs of wider audiences? Does the term NA (new adult) need to be used more for this age group and dynamics? TYSM for watching.
