Lyrics:
The static was humming on the telegraph wire
When a storm came rolling like a runaway fire!
Up on the high ridge, towering tall,
A beast made of thunder held the mountain in thrall!
A creature of copper, jagged and bright,
Feeding on lightning in the middle of the night!
I unslung my lantern, cranked the lens wide,
And marched up the gravel on the steep mountainside!
He roared at the clouds, brought the lightning down!
Shaking every timber in the valley-town!
I planted my boots in the mud and the stone—
Standing up to thunder all on my own!
Lightning on the high ridge, burning in the blue!
Strike all you want, but I’m coming for you!
Warden on the mountain with a copper-wired string,
Ready for the clash and the shockwave's sting!
Flash your bright sparks, rattle every pine—
You won't take the ridge while the lantern is mine!
He swung a blue bolt that shattered an oak,
Covering the ridge in a curtain of smoke!
I rolled through the embers, brought my wood to my chest,
Struck a fast chord where the energy rested!
The sonic wave hit him, turned his lightning to dust,
Shorting out his armour made of iron and rust!
He shrieked at the sky as the high voltage died,
Leaving only silence on the dark ridge-side!
The thunder died down... the static went dead...
Leaving black scorched earth where the monster had bled.
I touched the warm copper, wiped the rain off my face,
Another dark storm driven out of this place!
The sky cleared up... the stars came through...
Just an old warden doing what he's gotta do.
