How do you find your life's purpose before a crisis forces you to ask what really matters?
Chris Eaton is a former U.S. Army officer, death doula, life coach and co-owner of Trinity Yoga Wellness Center. After years of trauma, PTSD and a suicide attempt in 2018, his definition of success, healing and purpose changed dramatically.
In this episode of MOJO: The Meaning of Life and Business, Jennifer R. Glass and Chris explore what trauma can look like when we keep pushing it aside, why self-care matters even when life is overwhelmingly busy, and how confronting mortality can help us understand how we actually want to live.
One of Chris's most provocative exercises is remarkably simple: write your own eulogy.
How would you want to be remembered? What values would define your life? Who would you want to have become?
Then compare that person with how you're living today.
Jennifer and Chris also discuss:
• The difference between experiencing trauma and becoming stuck in it
• Chris's journey through PTSD and recovery
• Why coping and avoidance can eventually stop working
• Breath and meditation as tools for regaining focus
• Finding purpose by examining mortality
• Writing your own eulogy as a life-planning exercise
• Why self-care doesn't require an elaborate daily routine
• The importance of vision, mentors and community
• Why change requires integration into everyday life
• Chris's definition of success
• The power of stopping, breathing and saying, “I got this.”
