Folks! We made it! Permits were secured, after many attempts, and today we are hiking the famous Lost Coast Trail in Northern California. This is a rugged 25-mile trail that pairs the Kings Range with the Pacific Ocean. My two favorite things!! A couple of things to note:
🌿The rugged Lost Coast Trail sits on the ancestral homelands of the Sinkyone, Mattole, Coast Yuki, and Wiyot peoples. For millennia, these tribal nations sustainably stewarded the region. Be respectful & pack it out!
🌿Originally, planners intended for the Pacific Coast Highway to run through this area, but the incredibly steep, slide-prone King Range forced them to abandon the idea. This isolation allows you to see abundant marine wildlife like sea lions, elephant seals, and tide pools up close. Again, be respectful & PACK IT OUT!
🌿Itinerary Details:
Day 1: Mattole to Sea Lion Gulch Area (5.5 mi)
Day 2: Sea Lion Gulch to Big Flat (11 mi)
Day 3: Big Flat to Shelter Cove (8.8 mi)
