Hiking the Lost Coast Trail

In June, me and my partner hiked the lost coast trail in Humboldt County, California. The trail is a 24.6 mile point to point trail that traverses alongside the pacific ocean from Mattole Beach to Black Sands Beach in Shelter Cove. Although the hike is relatively flat, there are several factors that increase the difficulty of this hike- tides, boulders, and sand to name a few. If you are interested in doing this hike yourself, I recommend researching well in advance as permits fill up quickly, and there are several logistical hurdles that need to be figured out, as transportation can be difficult. Tides also need to be considered, as several sections of the trail are inaccessible during high tide. Although this planning is annoying, it is definitely worth it.
