GETHSEMANE — Kenneth E. Mills
Before the cross, there was a garden.
“Gethsemane” is an original Christian song reflecting on the night Jesus prayed beneath the olive trees, knowing what waited beyond the garden. His friends slept nearby. Betrayal was approaching. The cross was ahead.
Yet in the weight of that moment came the surrender:
“Not My will, but Yours.”
This song is about more than remembering Gethsemane. It is a prayer that when our own cup is bitter and the road ahead is difficult, we can learn to trust God even when surrender costs us something.
Before the chains.
Before the judgment.
Before Calvary.
There was Gethsemane.

LYRICS
[Verse 1]
Under the olive shadows,
The night held its breath.
The weight of all creation
Lay heavy on His chest.
Friends asleep around Him,
Silence deep and wide.
He whispered, “Not My will,
But Yours tonight.”
[Chorus]
Gethsemane, Gethsemane,
Hold my heart here, teach me to stay.
When the cup is bitter,
Still Your love will light the way.
Not my will, Yours alone,
Love poured out, faithful and strong.
Gethsemane...
Gethsemane.
[Verse 2]
He rose from the garden,
Surrender in His eyes.
The kiss of betrayal waited
Beneath the darkened sky.
He walked toward the chains,
Toward the judgment and the pain,
Knowing love would rise again.
Love would conquer the grave.
[Final Chorus]
Gethsemane, Gethsemane,
Hold my heart here, teach me to stay.
When the cup is bitter,
Still Your love will light the way.
Not my will, Yours alone,
Love poured out, faithful and strong.
Gethsemane...
Gethsemane.
[Outro]
Not my will...
Yours alone.
Gethsemane.
