Kewan Lacy Is Back — But Golding Said The Quiet Part Too | Ole Miss vs Vanderbilt Week

Every version of this story stops one sentence too early: Kewan Lacy is back. That's the wrong line. Golding's first answer Monday was yes — rehab all last week, practiced Sunday, mostly non-contact, "fully anticipate having him this week" — and then he kept going: "Even coming back, he's not gonna take the toll of 40 to 50 snaps." Anticipate is not cleared, and available is not whole. The man on a pitch count has a rushing touchdown in 12 straight games played, the longest at Ole Miss since 1956. Four days to Ole Miss at Vanderbilt. First road trip since Gainesville, and the depth chart is not set until Friday. Steven Willis takes apart the most revealing Ole Miss press conference of the season — the Lacy answer and the but inside it, the number Golding volunteered unasked, and the one Vanderbilt sentence that means Ole Miss is game-planning a formation nobody has put on tape. ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 Golding's first answer was about Kewan Lacy 5:16 Why the offense has to carry this one 5:51 "You're either coaching it or allowing it to happen" 6:46 The whole team watched the defensive tape 7:27 What the defense does to the offense 12:20 Players renegotiate contracts in December 12:58 "Almost nobody says it into a microphone" 15:17 The mercenary era of college football 15:50 Does December become the cutthroat meeting? 16:34 Miss toward your help, not away from it 19:25 "Almost like two different offenses" 20:45 "I think we will see both of them in the game" 23:54 The schedule that is left 24:09 You can lose one more and still get in 📌 THREE THINGS 1. Lacy is back and he is on a snap count — Golding said both halves out loud. Even available, no 40 to 50 snaps, so JT Lindsey and Makhi Frazier are the plan and not insurance. Lacy's 12-game rushing-TD streak is the longest at Ole Miss since 1956; only Derrick Henry (20) and Tebow (14) went longer in the SEC this century. 2. The number settles an argument. Golding, unprompted: 62 missed tackles for 482 yards — 70 percent of every rushing yard this defense has allowed. That is effort and want-to, not a call sheet. The fix: a Tuesday practice with zero defensive calls, full pads and live Sunday off a bye, and the whole team watching the defensive tape together. 3. Plans for all three. On Vanderbilt's quarterbacks: "It's almost like two different offenses." Jared Curtis flipped from Georgia. Blaze Berlowitz followed OC Tim Beck from New Mexico State — and Jerry Kill, the former NMSU head coach, is on Clark Lea's staff. Then Golding said he expects both QBs, possibly at the same time, so Ole Miss needs plans for all three. 🦈 EVERYDAYER CLUB — ad-free plus the members-only room, 7-day free trial: https://lockedonolemiss.supercast.com 💬 LOOM PRIVATE DISCORD — free to join:   / discord   🌐 EVERYTHING ELSE: https://olemisshub.com 🎧 EVERY PLATFORM: https://link.chtbl.com/LOOleMiss?sid=... 💼 ODOO — the all-in-one business management platform.
