Four provinces, almost 4,000 km, and fall colours the whole way 🍁 We drove from Toronto to Cape Breton Island over the Thanksgiving long weekend. On Day 1 we crossed Montreal, passed under the Quebec Bridge and caught the sunset on the St. Lawrence, then spent the evening wandering Old Quebec at night 🏮 (Halloween decorations everywhere, a street harpist, the funicular and the Breakneck Stairs). Day 2 started at Montmorency Falls (83 m, about 30 m taller than Niagara!), then a long drive through New Brunswick, with a rest stop in Moncton, all the way to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia 🌊 On the way home, late at night in New Brunswick, 5 or 6 moose walked right onto the road in front of us 🫎 (no footage, we were too busy NOT hitting them!) 🗺️ Route: Toronto → Montreal → Quebec City → Montmorency Falls → Edmundston → Moncton → Cape Breton Island, and back through New Brunswick and Old Montreal 📏 About 2,000 km each way ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 Intro 0:17 Day 1: Toronto to Quebec City 0:51 The Quebec Bridge at sunset 1:53 Old Quebec at night 3:35 Day 2: Montmorency Falls 4:38 The long drive east: New Brunswick & Moncton 5:59 We made it: Cape Breton Island 6:30 The drive home (and the moose!) 6:55 Old Montreal 7:05 The whole trip 💡 Tips if you're doing this drive: • Do it in early to mid October for the best fall colours, and book Old Quebec early on a long weekend. • Old Quebec is best at night: park in the upper town, walk down the Breakneck Stairs to Petit-Champlain, and take the funicular back up. • Montmorency Falls is only 15 minutes from Quebec City. Walk the suspension bridge right over the top of the falls. • New Brunswick at night: SLOW DOWN and use your high beams. Moose are everywhere between dusk and dawn, and they're huge. • Toronto to Cape Breton is about 2,000 km each way. Splitting it in Quebec City makes it very doable in two days.
