2000 Mt Thorley derailment recovery (NSW)

On 26 August 2000, the recovery of two 82 class locomotives was undertaken by heavy haulage vehicles. The locos had ended up on their side after derailing at a catch point on the Mt Thorley branch two days earlier. The locomotives were removed from the site to Range Road in Whittingham, a short distance from the derailment site. They were then taken across the level crossing (now a road overbridge) where they had days earlier hauled their train before the incident occurred.
