Styx and Arahura Valleys Circuit

There is nothing EASY about tramping in the West Coast backcountry. Every hour/minute/second, 100 metres/500 metres/ 1 km is hard earned. And oh the Ongaonga (stinging nettle) that left my skin still tingling after 3 days. No photo, video or tall tale can do this trip justice. The stats: 4 days 42 km 4 huts Thursday we tramping from Lake Kanierie past Mid Styx Hut arriving at Grassy Flat Hut at 6.45pm Friday we had a short day by time but a good effort heading up and over Styx Saddle, down to the Arahura River and along (up, down, sideways) to Mudflats Hut before the rain arrived in the afternoon. Saturday we left Mudflats Hut and headed down to Newton Creek junction, dropped packs and headed up to bag Newton Creek Hut, then returned to our packs and carried on to Lower Arahura Hut.
