10 Angels the Book of Enoch Names and Why the Church Erased Each One
Sometime in the second century BC, a text was circulating among Jewish communities that named not four archangels but seven, and one of those names has been almost completely erased from Western religious memory. The angel is called Saraqael, and he appears in 1 Enoch chapter 20, listed among the holy angels who watch over the world. Scholar R.H. Charles published the first major English critical translation of this passage in 1912 through Oxford's Clarendon Press, and the text is unambiguous. Saraqael exists. His assignment is specific. He presides over the spirits who sin.
