Theme: Why is it so hard to behave, focus, and follow the rules, even at Jumu'ah? Because we do not spend enough time learning who Allah is.
Short Summary (for Parents & Students): This youth khutbah begins a new series on the Names and Attributes of Allah. The reason we behave cannot be "because my teacher said so" or "because I am afraid of getting in trouble." The reason has to be that we want to please Allah. The Sahabah spent years learning who Allah is before many of the commands came, so we follow their example and start by getting to know Him. Allah tells us in the Quran that to Him belong the most beautiful names, so call upon Him by them. The more you know Allah, the easier it becomes to love Him, trust Him, and obey Him.
The first names we learn are Ar-Rahman and Ar-Rahim. Ar-Rahman means Allah's mercy covers everyone and everything: every breath, every meal, every friend, and every safe day. Ar-Rahim means Allah gives special mercy to those who believe in Him and obey Him, and we receive it when we pray, make dua, and remember Him.
Key Lessons:
• When you misbehave during the khutbah, you are not being rude to the khateeb. You are being rude to Allah
• Pleasing Allah should be your only moral compass
• Each Name of Allah teaches us something about Him and brings us closer to Him
• Ar-Rahman: mercy that covers all of creation
• Ar-Rahim: special mercy for the believers
