Petition on Axle Weight Balance, Braking Strategies and Fair Pay for Drivers

NO MORE SCALES PRODUCTION and trademark MOUSE SCALE® present. Petition. To the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and the U.S. Department of Labor. We, professional truck drivers, motor carriers, and the Mouse Scale trademark, ask federal agencies to give greater attention to load balance between the axles of tractors and trailers. We ask: 1. To research how load distribution affects traction, braking, stability, jackknife risk and fuel economy, and to develop recommendations for safe and economical load distribution in different weather conditions. 2. To review steer-axle weight limits in different states, without increasing the federal gross vehicle weight limit of 80,000 lb. 3. To develop braking strategies that take into account the actual loads on the steer axle, drive axles, trailer axles, and the fifth-wheel position. 4. To support the digitalization of load control: new mathematical solutions, modernization of certified scales, and monitoring of air-suspension and onboard data. 5. To recognize professional load control as an important part of a driver's work, with fair additional compensation from motor carriers. Professionals should not work for free. Mouse Scale.
