Super Rare Combined MBTA Commuter Rail/CSX Track Inspection Train on the Newburyport/Rockport Line

If you are interested in more content from me, my photography can be viewed on Instagram at:   / rail_spike_productions   About this video: On May 5, 2026, MBTA’s North Side work train crew operated a track geometry train to both Rockport and Newburyport, MA (in addition to Plaistow, NH - videos posted later). This inspection run was done as a collaborative effort between the MBTA Commuter Rail and CSX Transportation, as both railroads were running their track inspection equipment together to assist with calibrating both of the MBTA’s new track geometry cars. CSXT 9969 and the equipment normally seen on CSX train W003 were sandwiched between MBTA equipment and operated on every line on the North Side of the Commuter Rail System throughout two days in early May of 2026. More footage of this train from other lines is posted on my channel after this upload. This video follows the train solely on the Eastern Route Mainline and Gloucester Branch, bringing CSX equipment to these areas for only the second time in recent history. The clips seen in this video were filmed in Beverly, Manchester, Gloucester, Rockport, Hamilton, Ipswich, and Rowley, MA.
