“Grace In The Dust”

[Verse 1] The heavy burdens we all carry down the weary road The quiet whispers telling us we have to bear the load Religion points a finger where the shadows try to hide And builds a wall of judgment while pushing grace aside [Chorus] Religion counts the failures and measures every wrong It hands you back the heavy chains and says you don't belong But Jesus takes a towel and he steps into the dust He kneels down in the dust, embracing those the world won’t touch [Verse 2] The altars made of marble keep the broken far away With expectations written on the rules we have to pay We stand outside the temple with our shoes stained by the street Afraid to let the holy see the dirt upon our feet [Chorus] Religion counts the failures and measures every wrong It hands you back the heavy chains and says you don't belong But Jesus takes a towel and he steps into the dust He kneels down in the dust, embracing those the world won’t touch [Bridge] He doesn't wait for clean hands or a polished, perfect heart He meets us in the valley where the healing has to start He lifts us from the ashes, washes every stain away Turns the darkest midnight to the brightness of the day [Chorus] Religion counts the failures and measures every wrong It hands you back the heavy chains and says you don't belong But Jesus takes a towel and he steps into the dust He kneels down in the dust, embracing those the world won’t touch
